Please let me tell you a little about Health Education Africa Resource Team (HEART).
Freedom for Girls is one of our three major projects and has grown over the past three years to have
reached 59,000 school girls in rural Kenya! See
Through the Freedom for Girls Proqram, girls are provided with four undergarments, twelve month supply of sanitary napkins, and a health manual. These girls receive a health education session that includes: the menstrual cycle, personal hygiene, HIV prevention education and a demonstration of how to use the sanitary towels and dispose of them properly. If not for this program's assistance, thousands of girls would be absent up to five days of school a month due to lack of protection during their monthly cycle.
Patricia and Steve support many projects in Kenya, with their "Time, Treasure, and Talents". For our program they have initiated and fund-raised annually for Freedom for Girls packets for needy girls in Kenyan schools for the last 5 years! These girls were previously missing 5-6 days of school every month. Initially he started by helping girls at a school in Nakuru, Kenya, Patricia and Steve now assist over 2,500 girls in 36 Kenyan schools annually, hence keeping girls in school and improving their chances in life.
Without an education there is no possibility of advancement in Kenya. Your club and the Werner's have donated over $40,000 USD to this project either personally or through fund raising efforts. That is 8,000 girls in Kenya still in school!
Patricia and Steve are wonderful people who have tremendously changed lives of so many young girls in the remote villages on the outskirts of Nakuru. I consider it a blessing to know and work with them. Without their involvement, commitment, passion and friendship, we would not have been able to extend our mission into this part of Kenya and many of these young women would not have this opportunity to succeed at school. We sincerely thank them and your Club for what you have done to improve lives for the less fortunate members of society.
